We are carrying out a project to restore the area by removing the invasive plant Ageratina altissima and planting native species together with Microsoft, Andong National University, InvaLab, Gwacheon City, and local volunteer organizations at Mount Umyeon in Seocho-gu, Seoul. The restored area, Mount Umyeon, is a mountain near Seoul where residents can hike and experience nature. However, in recent years, we became aware through direct investigation that the invasive plant Ageratina altissima has been disrupting the natural biodiversity in Mount Umyeon. On June 14 and August 30, 2024, two rounds of physical removal were carried out, and afterward, seeds of native species were planted in the targeted area for restoration. As a result of these efforts, the project will collect data to compare the recovery of native plants in the area and the overall restoration of the interconnected surrounding ecosystems. This project offers an event led by Microsoft volunteers in cooperation with the Ecological Restoration Society and Microsoft to support the restoration efforts and the beauty of Mount Umyeon.
